The seeds of both SFE&G and SES were sown back in 1985 when Jim Steiker began his career as an attorney for PACE, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit organization that promoted employee ownership. His future partner, Steven Fischer, was outside counsel to PACE.

By 1987, Jim founded his own law firm to focus his advisory practice exclusively on Employee Stock Ownership Plans. He soon joined with other ESOP advisors to form Praxis Associates, Inc., the predecessor to SES Advisors. Through Praxis, the firm was able to provide transaction planning, ESOP recordkeeping and organizational development services to create, maintain and improve ESOP companies.

By providing a unique combination of legal, administrative and financial advisory services to ESOP companies, both firms grew and gained reputations for being among the foremost ESOP advisors in the country.

Steven Fischer joined the firm in 1996 adding depth and sophistication to the law firm’s ESOP practice. At the time, Steve had more than a dozen years of ESOP experience, including as general counsel to the then-largest ESOP focused investment banking firm in the country.

Over the years, Steiker, Fischer, Edwards & Greenapple, P.C. and SES Advisors have continued to add key principals in both the legal and financial disciplines. The firms continue to grow in both size and experience, and have been able to significantly expand their scope of services.  The firms are typically involved in more than 50 ESOP matters a year and our recordkeeping clients range from 50 to 1000 participants.

Today, Steiker, Fischer, Edwards & Greenapple, P.C. and SES Advisors together have one of the nation’s largest core groups of ESOP attorneys as well as financial and recordkeeping consultants. The firms maintain a total staff of 30 professionals serving clients nationwide from strategically located offices in Philadelphia, PA, Morristown, NJ, Providence, RI, Burlington, VT, Redwood City, CA and Lake Anna, VA.  Satellite offices are located in Exmore, VA, Medina, OH and Victor, NY.
